The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team (3-2) got back to their winning ways after defeating Mohawk Valley 4-3 on the road Wednesday afternoon.

The game was a back-and-forth scoring affair as the Vikings and Hawks alternated goals with the Vikings coming out on top as Mohawk Valley ran out of time. The Vikings scored less than two minutes into the game when Sydnee Metzold (Rotterdam/Schalmont) found Rachael Frisch (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) on the outside of the 18-yard box and arched the ball into the top left corner for the goal.

With 7:15 remaining in the first half, Mohawk Valley tied up the game off a rebound on a Mohawk Valley free kick. The score remained 1-1 at the end of the first half of play.

It didn't take long for the Vikings to score again in the second half. Bethany Pochobradsky (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) found Anna Colarusso (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) for the shot and the goal from outside of the box. Mohawk Valley tied the game up again on a cross from the left side to find an open Hawks forward for the goal.

As the back-and-forth scoring continued, Sydney Buhrke (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) found Metzold at the top of the 18-yard and put the Vikings up 3-2 as she scored with a shot to the bottom right corner. Mohawk scored again to tied the Vikings at 3-3 with 15:03 remaining in the game.

The Vikings final and game-winning goal came with 14:05 remaining as Colarusso found Metzold for a one-on-one matchup with the Hawks keeper and put a well-placed ball in the bottom right corner for her second goal of the game, giving the Vikings the final 4-3 win over Mohawk Valley.

The Vikings will now face its toughest part of its 2017 schedule when they travel to face No.1 Erie and No.4 Genesee in back-to-back nights on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 before hosting No. 2 Herkimer on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
