The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team (0-1) dropped its opening match of the 2017 season on Thursday night 2-1 in overtime at Finger Lakes (1-0).

The Vikings fell behind after a Lakers goal with 7:38 remaining in the first half of play. Right before halftime, the Vikings rallied to tie the game 1-1 on a transition goal which began with a clearing pass from Kerri VanAusdle (Athens/Coxsackie-Athens) to Anna Colarusso (Poughkeepsie/Arlington). Colarusso then found Sydnee Metzold (Rotterdam/Schalmont) ahead of the pack, creating a one-on-one match-up with the Finger Lakes keeper and Metzold connected for the Vikings first goal of the season.

The second half remained scoreless to force overtime which ended with the Lakers earning the golden goal 2 minutes into the overtime period. Kaitlin Nadeau (Latham/Shaker) recorded seven saves in goal for the Vikings.

The women's soccer team is back in action for its home opener on Sept. 7 to play Holyoke at 6 p.m.
