Women's Basketball Dominates Mountain Valley Conference, Led by Standout Performers

The Hudson Valley Vikings women's basketball team has had a stellar season, capping it off with a Mountain Valley Conference Championship. Their dominance was fueled by outstanding individual performances, with Leah Pergola, Stylianna Mantzouris, and Myanna Faraj earning First Team All-Mountain Valley Conference honors. Abigayle Yetto was also recognized for her contributions, making the Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference.
Leah Pergola – Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year & First Team Selection
Leah Pergola was the key for the Vikings this season, leading the way to a conference title while securing Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year honors. Her all-around game was on full display, as she averaged an impressive 24.9 points per game and shot over 50% from the field. She was also a force on the boards and played a key role defensively, making her one of the most complete players in the league.
Stylianna Mantzouris – First Team Selection
A crucial playmaker for the Vikings, Stylianna Mantzouris showcased her ability to control the game on both ends of the court. She averaged 23.8 points per game in just 15 games, proving to be one of the most consistent scorers on the team. Her leadership and defensive intensity helped the Vikings maintain their dominance throughout the season.
Myanna Faraj – First Team Selection
A versatile weapon for the Vikings, Myanna Faraj was a nightmare for opponents. She contributed significantly on both offense and defense, posting 24.4 points per game while being a key presence in the paint. Her rebounding and ability to finish at the rim provided the Vikings with a consistent inside-out threat.
Abigayle Yetto – Second Team Selection
Abigayle Yetto was an essential part of the Vikings' success, earning Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference recognition. She averaged 16.8 points per game, adding valuable scoring depth to an already high-powered offense. Her ability to stretch the floor and contribute in key moments at point made her a standout player.
Coach Keith Danzy – Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year
Under the guidance of Head Coach Keith Danzy, Hudson Valley navigated a challenging season and emerged as the Mountain Valley Conference Champions. Danzy's leadership and ability to maximize the talent of his players earned him the well-deserved Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year award.
The Hudson Valley Vikings had had an impressive season, with an overall record of 16-7 so far and dominating conference play with an 8-1 record. Their strong performance translated to a .696 winning percentage, while their dominance in conference games resulted in an outstanding .889 conference winning percentage. The Vikings were unbeatable at home, going 8-0, and held their own on the road with a 6-5 away record. They also maintained a balanced performance at neutral sites, finishing 2-2. Their consistency across all environments played a crucial role in their championship-winning season so far.
Up next, the Vikings will compete in the NJCAA Region 3 Quarterfinals, where they will face Mohawk Valley on Friday at 3:15 PM, hosted by Jefferson.
