The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball program had its season come to a close on Friday afternoon as they were defeated 86-51 by No. 3 seeded Mohawk Valley in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Region 3 championships, hosted by Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY.

The Vikings held strong with the hawks for the first half of the first quarter but their lack of depth quickly impacted the game with the Hawks pulling away from the Vikings with a 27-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Mohawk Valley continued their strong play in the second quarter as they outscored Hudson Valley 21-12 and took a 48-26 lead into the halftime break.

The Vikings were unable to overcome the early deficit and the Hawks continued to build upon their success. The Hawks kept winning the quarter margins on the Vikings, outscoring Hudson Valley 23-13 in the third quarter and their lead jumped to 71-39 with the game heading into the final quarter.

Leading the way for the Vikings was Leah Pergola, who finished with a team-best 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including 2-of-6 from behind the three-point arc. Pergola, along with Abigayle Yetto and Abbigail Newell played all 40 minutes for the short-handed Vikings. Yetto finished with 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting and Newell added seven points, shooting 2-of-7 from the three-point line.

The 2023-24 season concluded for the short-handed Vikings and finished the year with a 13-10 overall record and averaged 68 points, 38.8 rebounds and 16 assists per game.
