Women's Basketball Dominant in Win

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team was victorious as they defeated North Country 100-55 on Tuesday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.

The game started with a moderate pace as both teams started to settle into the game. In the second quarter, the Vikings found its stride, outscoring North Country 29-15 and took full control of the game as they entered the halftime break leading 46-27. Leading the way for the Vikings in the first half was Leah Pergola, who tallied 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from behind the three-point arc.

Abbigail Newell also jumped out to a quick start as she scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting in 15 minutes off of the bench. As a team, the Vikings connected on six, three-point field goals in the second quarter. Newell completed her career night with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point arc.  

In the third quarter, the Vikings pushed its lead to 40 points as they outscored the Saints 34-13 and coasted towards its seventh win in the last eight games. Abigayle Yetto finished with a double-double with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting with 10 assists and six rebounds.

The Vikings return to the court this weekend, Saturday, January 27 when they travel to take on Cayuga at 1 p.m. in Auburn, NY.
