Women's Basketball Dominant on Community Day

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team put on a show on Community Day as they defeated Tompkins Cortland 86-58 for their fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.

The Vikings improved to 7-4 on the season and were led by freshman Leah Pergola, who led four Vikings in double-figures. Pergola shot 10-of-19 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from behind the three-point arc for a game-high 30 points. She also career-highs with 16 rebounds and eight blocks on the defensive end.

Abigayle Yetto also had a career day as she finished with 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting and added four rebounds, four assists and a team-high six steals. Sidney Phillips shot 4-of-8 from the floor for 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and Destiny Pipino was the final Viking to reach double-digits, scoring 12 points with eight assists and six rebounds.

As a team, the women's program shot 46 percent from the floor on 31-of-67 and collected 51 rebounds 21 assists, 17 steals and 11 team blocks while forcing Tompkins Cortland into 27 turnovers.

The women's program has a critical Region 3 matchup coming up this Saturday, January 20th as they host rival Herkimer at 3 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.
