The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team fought hard but couldn't keep up with Mohawk Valley as they were defeated 63-47 at home on Saturday afternoon at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.

The women's team held tough with the Hawk as they traded baskets for the majority of the first half, trailing 33-31 at the halftime break. In the third quarter, the Hawks closed out the Vikings for good with a dominant 16-2 run in the final 8:26 of the quarter.

The Vikings recovered with a strong fourth quarter but it was too late as the third quarter run by the Hawks proved to be too much of a deficit for Hudson Valley to make up in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Hudson Valley's Leah Pergola finished with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-23 shooting and added seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. Sidney Phillips ran into foul trouble throughout the game but was able to record a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes of action.

The women's basketball team returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 18th when they travel to take on North Country at 1 p.m. in Saranac Lake, NY.
