The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball program earned its first win of the season as they defeated SUNY Orange 79-59 on Thursday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.

As a team, Hudson Valley shot 46-percent from the floor (27-of-58) and hit five three-point field goals (5-of-10) with 20-of-28 from the free throw line for a quality team win. Individually, the Vikings were led by Leah Pergola, who finished with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting with 6-of-8 from the free throw line.

The Vikings had four individuals finish the game with double-figure scoring. Joining Pergola was Sidney Phillips, who is off to a fast start this season, averaging 18 points per game over the first two games of the season, finished the game with 18 points on 5-of-12 shooting and 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Destiny Pipino scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added five steals and five rebounds.

The game began in a stalemate as Hudson Valley held on to an 18-17 advantage following the first quarter. The Vikings defense stepped up and held Orange to 20 points over the next two quarters and the Vikings outpaced the Colts 42-20 over that span, to pull away for a convincing win.

Up next for the women's basketball program is a critical Region 3 home matchup against Mohawk Valley this Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.
