Women's Basketball Edged by Mohawk Valley in Overtime

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball program dropped a tough road game 56-51 in overtime at Mohawk Valley in Utica, NY on Wednesday evening.

The Vikings outscored the Hawks 16-7 in the fourth quarter to force overtime after tailing 38-29 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, the Vikings were led by Sidney Phillips and Nya Ewans-Edmonds, who combined to score all 16 Hudson Valley points in the quarter. Ewans-Edmonds scored eight of her game-high 21 points in the fourth and Phillips tallied eight of her 14 points to help eliminate their deficit and extend the game.

In overtime, Mohawk Valley pulled away as the Vikings managed only two field goals, while Mohawk Valley's Hess took control, scoring seven of her team-high 16 points in the extra frame.

Leemya Garcia had a good day offensively as she was the third Vikings player to reach double-figures with 10 points, all coming in the first half of the game.

The Vikings return to the court this weekend as they travel to take on UConn-Avery Point in a non-league matchup on Saturday, February 11 at 1 p.m. in Groton, Conn.
