Women's Basketball Continues Win Streak; Upsets Jefferson

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball extended its season-high win streak to four straight games and improved to 9-6 on the year after their 85-80 road win at Jefferson in Watertown, NY on Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Vikings offense was Nya Ewans-Edmonds, who finished with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-22 from the floor and added four rebounds and three assists in just 25 minutes of action. Payton Graber had an off-game shooting, but finished with a double-double, collecting 18 plints and 12 rebounds to go along with her seven assists and five steals. Graber still leads the nation with 26.3 points per game and is second in the nation with 5.5 steals per game.

Tylah Langley also recorded a double-double with 13 points on 5-of-15 shooting and 11 rebounds. Sidney Phillips had a big game off the bench for Hudson Valley as she posted 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds in 21 minutes of play.

Trailing at halftime, the Vikings utilized a 22-13 run in the third quarter to regain the lead, which they last held at the beginning of the second quarter when the Vikings led 24-22. A balanced fourth-quarter scoring by Hudson Valley helped preserve the upset win over a tough regional opponent in Jefferson.

The Vikings are now 8-5 in the Region 3 standings and are ranked sixth place overall as they enter another important game tomorrow, Sunday, February 5 when they travel to take on nationally-ranked No. 11 Onondaga at 1 p.m. in Syracuse, NY.
