The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team could not shake off the holiday cobwebs in their first game back in action since Dec. 10 and were defeated 69-63 in the McDonough Sports Complex on Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings were ice cold in the first half as they were outscored 30-4 to start the game and entered the halftime break trailing 40-19. The Vikings did find their rhythm and outscored Herkimer 59-39 throughout the remainder of the game but the early deficit was too steep to overcome.

Payton Graber led the Vikings with a game-high 26 points, the nation's leading scorer at the holiday break. Nya Ewans-Edmonds had a strong second half and finished with 15 points. Sidney Phillips added 10 points. Tylah Langley made her HVCC debut and scored all seven of her points in the fourth quarter.

They return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 10 when they travel to take on Massasoit at 5 p.m. in Brockton, Mass.
