Women's basketball closes out first half in dominant fashion

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball earned a Region 3 win in dominating fashion as they defeated Corning 87-25 at the McDonough Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings jumped out early on the Red Barons and they continued to keep the defensive pressure on throughout the first half as the Vikings cored 52 points on 43 Corning turnovers. The Vikings took a 41-10 advantage into the halftime break.

Coming out of the break, the Vikings offense scored a game-high 29 points as they shot 52 percent from the floor (11-of-21) to push the lead further in favor of the Vikings.

Leading the way for Hudson Valley was Payton Graber, who finished with a game-high 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting, including 4-of-11 from behind the three-point arc. Graber also tallied a game-high 10 steals and six rebounds in 33 minutes of play.

Yvonne Boyd also had a great game for the Vikings as she filled the stat sheet, scoring 12 points and added eight rebounds, seven assists and eight steals. Boyd shot 6-of-7 from the floor in 30 minutes of action.

The women's team now enters the holiday break as they finished the fall semester with a 3-3 record. They are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, January 5 as they welcome Herkimer to the McDonough Sports Complex for a 3 p.m. tip.
