Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (1-0) jumped out to a great start in their 2018 season opener as the Vikings defeated Rockland 95-13 on Thursday evening in McDonough Sports Complex. 

The Vikings defense kept Rockland off balance and prevented second chance opportunities while jumping out to a 21-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. As a team, the Vikings combined for 36 field goals, including seven made baskets from behind the arc. 

SophomoreHannah Kreiger(Brunswick/Tamarac) led the Vikings in scoring as she finished with a game-high 19 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Hayley Jones(Catskill/Catskill) knocked down a pair of three-pointers from the top of the key as she finished with 16 points with seven total field goals made. 

Lyndsay Miller(Loudonville/Shaker),Christina Wright(Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) and Melpomeni Doutsis(Albany/Albany) all finished with double-digit scoring to help guide the Vikings to their first win of the season. Miller and Doutsis each finished with 13 points and Wright added 12 points with four field goals and three free-throws made. 

The women's basketball team is back home on Saturday, November 3 to play Cayuga. The tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex.
