Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight!

Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (14-7) won their fifth straight game this afternoon after defeating Schenectady 77-58 in the McDonough Sports Complex in Troy, NY.

The Vikings entered the game leading the nation with 180 made three-point field goals and they continued their hot shooting from behind the arc this afternoon. As a team, the Vikings made 13 baskets from long range to increase their national lead. Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) led the Vikings with 24 points on a game-high eight three-point field goals.

The Vikings took a slim 33-30 advantage into the break but their offense came to life in the second half. Hudson Valley outscored the Royals 44-28 in the final two quarters to secure a comfortable victory.

Kali Szczepanski (Las Vegas/Watervliet) and Cameran Henderson (Green Island/Heatly) scored 13 points each. Henderson played a big part in the Vikings 24-point third quarter as she scored eight of her 13 points in the third frame.

Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) added 12 points, with eight of her points coming after the halftime break.

The women's basketball team is on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 7 as they travel to play Clinton Community College at 5 p.m.
