Women's Basketball Overcomes Slow Start to Defeat Broome

Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (12-7) overcame a slow first start to win their third straight game after defeating Broome 58-33 on Sunday afternoon in Binghamton, NY.

The Vikings were outscored 11-2 and were held without a field goal in the first quarter by Broome's defense. Hudson Valley quickly regrouped and outscored the Hornets 15-4 in the second quarter and held a 17-15 advantage at the half.

Cameran Henderson (Green Island/Heatly) continued her consistent play and filled the stat sheet for the second straight game. Henderson finished with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and six steals in 30 minutes of action.

After a scoreless first half, Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) found her shot in the second half, hitting four three-point field goals and finished with 12 points and three rebounds in 20 minutes as the Vikings offense outscored Broome 43-18 in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) and Hayley Jones (Catskill/Catskill) combined for 17 points. Engster tallied nine points, to go with her team-high six rebounds, three assists and two steals in 20 minutes of game action. Jones scored eight points and added four rebounds.

The women's basketball team is on the road this Wednesday, Jan. 31 as they travel north to play Adirondack at 5 p.m.
