Women's Basketball Dominates in 93-33 Win

Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (9-5) defeated Clinton Community College 93-33 on Thursday evening at McDonough Sports Complex.

The Vikings played well in all facets of the game. They played suffocating defense, holding Clinton to 10 points in the second half and finished strong offensively by scoring 30 points in the fourth quarter.

Offensively, the Vikings were led by Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) and Kali Szczepanski (Las Vegas/Watervliet) as four members of the Vikings team reached double-digit scoring.

Engster finished two assists shy from her first career triple-double as she scored 25 points (11-for-15), grabbed 13 rebounds and added eight assists. Szczepanski shot 9-for-11 from the floor for 24 points (4-for-6 3PT), five rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) added 18 points (7-for-22) along with five assists and four steals in the Vikings dominating win. As a team, the Vikings hit 14 three-point field goals, which is the third time this season Hudson Valley made 14 or more field goals from behind the arc. Melpomeni Doutsis (Albany/Albany) finished with a career-high 10 points and added five rebounds and three steals for Hudson Valley.

Amanda Laporte and Jordanne Manney led the Cougars with 17 points and 16 points, respectively.

The Vikings are back in action next week, Thursday, January 18 as they welcome No.2 Mohawk Valley Community College (11-2) to the McDonough Sports Complex at 5 p.m.
