Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (7-2) had to play a couple extra periods on Sunday afternoon as the Vikings got back to their winning ways after defeating Corning Community College 104-101 in double-overtime at the McDonough Sports Complex.

The Vikings were trailing 66-57 at the start of the fourth quarter after Cameran Henderson (Green Island/Heatly) scored nine of her 14 points in the third quarter to keep the game within striking distance for Hudson Valley.

Once the fourth quarter started, Hannah Kregier (Brunswick/Tamarac) carried the Vikings with her hot-hand, scoring 20 of her team-high 31 points in the fourth quarter and overtime periods. The Vikings were down 80-75 with 45 seconds remaining in regulation. Kreiger connected on a deep, 25-footer with 18.9 seconds remaining. The Vikings were now down 81-78.

Hudson Valley's full-court pressure forced Corning to pick up their pace and caused an erred pass, giving the Vikings the ball back with 7.4 seconds on the clock. Kreiger then connected again from beyond the arc to tie the game at 81-81 with 3.1 seconds remaining. Following a timeout, Corning stepped out of bounds on the inbounds play, giving the Vikings the opportunity to win the game in regulation.

The next play, Hudson Valley found Hayley Jones (Catskill/Catskill) one-on-one in the paint, but Jones was unable to hit the contested shot as time expired.

In the first overtime, Corning's Kiara Buxton and Taylor Sutryk hit a pair of buckets to give the Red Barons a 91-85 advantage. As expected, Kreiger and the Vikings responded. On a fast break, Kreiger marched down the court, lined up her shot and hit another three-pointer at the top of the key. The Vikings trailed 92-90 with less than 20 seconds remaining.

After Corning's Mackenzie Warner made one of two free throws, the Vikings' Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) gathered a long rebound, composed herself and hit a game-tying three as the clock expired, forcing the second overtime period.

In the second overtime, Kali Szczepanski (Las Vegas/Watervliet) gave the Vikings the 95-93 lead, hitting a runner in the lane. She later connects on an open three-pointer in the far corner of the court to put the Vikings up 98-96 with 2:51 remaining in the game.

The hot-shooting Vikings then found Jones in the paint with one-on-one coverage. Jones connected on a quick spin move in the paint to put the Vikings up 100-96. The game came to a close when Engster stole Corning's inbound pass with seconds remaining on the clock, securing the win in the highest combined scoring game in NJCAA history (205 points). The previous record was 200 combined points when Mohawk Valley defeated Delhi 116-84 during the 2011-12 season.

The Vikings are on the road this Wednesday, Dec. 6 as they travel to Onondaga for a 5 p.m. start.
