Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (6-1) survived an overtime scare by defeating Monroe College–Bronx 94-90 at McDonough Sports Complex on Tuesday evening.

The Vikings led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter and held the lead for the majority of the game before Monroe-Bronx took a 79-78 advantage with 4:12 remaining in the game. The Vikings were down 83-80 when sophomore Kali Szczepanski (Las Vegas/Watervliet) hit an open corner three-pointer with 1:29 remaining in the game.

The final minutes were filled with back-and-forth plays by both squads. Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) buried a huge three-pointer with 30-seconds remaining in the game to give the Vikings the 86-84 advantage. Monroe-Bronx responded by hitting a pair of free-throws to force the overtime period. Engster nearly earned a triple-double as she finished the game with a team-high 23 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in 35 minutes on the floor.

In the overtime period, Szczepanski scored four of her 20 points (8-11 FG) to help the Vikings outscore Monroe-Bronx 8-4 and the Vikings secured their fifth straight win.

Hayley Jones (Catskill/Catskill) also recorded her first double-double of the season as she finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) added nine points early before she was delegated to the bench for the majority of the night with early foul trouble. Cameran Henderson (Green Island/Heatly) also contributed with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Vikings.

As a team, the Vikings went 29-for-75 (38.6%) from the floor, 9-for-33 from behind the arc and 28-for-40 from the free throw line.

Hudson Valley is back in action for a weekend double-header on Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3. The Vikings will host Finger Lakes on Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. and will play Corning on Dec. 3 at 12 p.m. All of the home games will be broadcasted live through our online Vikings Broadcast Network.
