Women's Basketball Edges Herkimer 73-71

Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (2-1) used a 21-point third quarter to set the tone in the second half as the Vikings defeated Herkimer 73-71 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings combined to shoot 40% from the floor on 31-for-77 and added 27 rebounds, 16 assists and nine steals in today's win.

Cameran Henderson (Green Island/Heatly) and Kali Szczepanski (Las Vegas/Watervliet) led the Vikings with 14 points and 13 points, respectively. Henderson shot 70% on 7-for10 from the floor to lead the Vikings offense and Szczepanski went 5-for11, including 3-for-5 from behind the arc.

Henderson also played an essential role in getting her teammates involved as she recorded a team-high eight assists against Herkimer. Henderson also tallied five of the Vikings nine steals on the afternoon.

Asali Valentine (Elmhurst/Academy of American Studies), Melpomeni Doutsis (Albany/Albany) and Sierra Hill (Canajoharie/Canajoharie) combined for 27 points off the bench as they played a key role in securing the victory for the Vikings.

The women's basketball team is back home on Wednesday, Nov. 15 as they welcome Adirondack to the McDonough Sports Complex at 7 p.m.
