Women's Basketball Drops Home Opener to Jefferson

Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (1-1) couldn't hold off a fourth quarter attack as the Vikings were defeated by Jefferson Community College 79-77 on Friday evening at McDonough Sports Complex.

Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) continued her hot shooting from beyond the arc as she scored 16 points, including 4-for-8 from behind the 3-point line. Kreiger also recorded a team-high six rebounds and three steals. Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) added nine points from 3-of-4 from behind the arc and four total rebounds.

Hayley Jones (Catskill/Catskill) had a big night with 16 points on 7-for-10 from the field and added a team-high six rebounds. Kali Szczepanski (Las Vegas/Watervliet) shot 54% from the floor for 13 points for the Vikings.

As a team, the Vikings combined to shoot 28-of-68 (41%) from the floor and shot 10-of-30 from behind the 3-point arc. The Vikings also totaled 31 rebounds, 12 assists and seven steals.

The Vikings are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 11 as they travel to play Herkimer College at 1 p.m.
