Women's Basketball Wins Season-Opener vs. Cayuga

Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (1-0) kicked off the 2017 season with an 88-82 victory over Cayuga Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) scored a game-high 30-points as she was one of three Vikings to reached double-digit scoring in the season-opener. Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central) hit a team-high five field goals from three-point range and added five clutch free throws in the fourth quarter for 22 points for Hudson Valley.

Kreiger had the hot hand for the majority of the night, especially in the third quarter when she scored 16 points on five field-goals, including four three-point baskets. Kali Szczepanski (Las Vegas/Watervliet) took over in the fourth quarter to help the Vikings secure its first win of the season as she scored 11 of her 12 points with five baskets, including one from behind the arc.

The women's basketball team is back at home on Friday, Nov. 11 to face Jefferson Community College at 6 p.m. in McDonough Sports Complex.
