Softball Advances After First Round Win Over #8 Finger Lakes

GAME ONE: HVCC 14 - FINGER LAKES 0
On Sunday, May 11, 2025, the Hudson Valley Vikings delivered a commanding 14-0 shutout victory over Finger Lakes CC at home, showcasing dominance on both sides of the game.
The Vikings' offense exploded for 14 runs on 16 hits, scoring in three straight innings—4 in the second, 6 in the third, and 4 in the fourth. Leadoff hitter Angelise Montanez set the tone, going 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Izabelle Ratcliffe, Samantha Graham, and Anna Siter also had strong performances, each contributing multiple hits and runs. Graham and Ratcliffe both tallied 3 RBIs apiece, while Siter added 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs of her own.
Lily Brennan continued her strong freshman campaign with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, scoring twice and stealing a base. Freshman Maeve Brannigan added an RBI, and returners like Kayden Craft and Reegan Mullen combined to provide additional offensive firepower with doubles and multiple runs scored.
On the mound, Moira Collins was dominant, tossing a complete-game two-hit shutout. She struck out 8 batters without issuing a walk, facing just 18 hitters over 5 innings. Her efficient 71-pitch outing included 48 strikes.
GAME TWO: HVCC 14 - FINGER LAKES 0
Angelise Montanez collected five hits in five at bats, as the Vikings defeated Finger Lakes 14-0 in game 2. Montanez doubled in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the second inning.
The Vikings got on the board in the top of the first inning after Samantha Graham doubled to center field, and Grace Harris singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. The Vikings added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Izabelle Ratcliffe hit a sacrifice fly, and Graham singled to center field, each scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Lily Brennan singled down the right field line, Montanez doubled to center field, Ratcliffe singled down the left field line, and Finger Lakes committed an error, each scoring one run.
The Vikings scored five runs on eight hits in the top of the fourth inning. Montanez singled, scoring one run, Ratcliffe doubled, scoring one run, Graham singled, scoring two runs, and Reegan Mullen singled, scoring one run. Mullen stepped in the circle first for the Vikings. The starter gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three.
The Vikings amassed 26 hits in the game. Ratcliffe and Graham were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in four runs for The Vikings. Harris, Maeve Brannigan, Kayden Craft, Anna Siter, and Mullen each collected multiple hits for the Vikings. The Vikings turned one double play in the game. The Vikings were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Graham made the most plays with five.
The Vikings advance to the next round of the Region 3 tournament that will be played on Thursday, May 15th.
