Softball Goes 1-1 at Monroe

GAME ONE: HVCC 1 - MONROE 2

The Vikings fell to Monroe 2-1 on Sunday in Rochester on the final play of the game. Monroe was down 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning when they singled, scoring two runs.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Monroe's pitchers struck out 12, while the Vikings sat down 12. The Vikings got on the board in the third inning after Izabelle Ratcliffe doubled, scoring one run.

Moira Collins started the game for the Vikings. The starter gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out 12 and walking four.  Ratcliffe went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.

GAME TWO: HVCC 7 - MONROE 5

Grace Harris collected three hits in three at bats, as the Vikings defeated Monroe, 7-5. Harris hit a solo home run to center field in the third inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Vikings went back into the lead after Maeve Brannigan singled to center field, and Harris singled to center field, each scoring two runs. Harris hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the third for the Vikings.

Reegan Mullen earned the win for the Vikings. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking two. Moira Collins appeared in relief for the Vikings.

The Vikings amassed 11 hits in the game. Harris and Angelise Montanez each collected three hits for the Vikings. Izabelle Ratcliffe collected two hits for the Vikings in four at bats.

The Vikings head to Onondaga for a double header on Thursday at 3pm and 5pm.
