Softball Sweeps Division II Lackawanna For First Wins

GAME ONE: HVCC 9 - LACKAWANNA 0
Moira Collins was dominant in the circle, as the starting pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in the Vikings' 9-0 victory over Lackawanna College Softball on Wednesday. Collins allowed one hit and zero runs over six innings while walking four.
The Vikings got on the board in the third inning after Samantha Graham singled, scoring two runs. Maeve Brannigan provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Vikings with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. The Vikings had a strong eye at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Kayden Craft, Angelise Montanez, Izabelle Ratcliffe, and Graham led the team with two walks each. The Vikings didn't commit a single error in the field. Graham had the most chances in the field with 10.
GAME TWO: HVCC 13 - LACKAWANNA 6
Samantha Graham drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Vikings past Lackawanna. Graham doubled in the first scoring two, doubled in the fourth scoring one, and singled in the seventh scoring one.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two doubles. The Vikings first got on the board when Maeve Brannigan doubled, scoring two runs. The Vikings added one run in the second after Brannigan doubled down the left field line. A double by Angelise Montanez extended the Vikings lead to 7-2 in the top of the third inning. The Vikings scored five runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning. Montanez tripled, scoring one run, Kayden Craft singled, scoring one run, Graham singled, scoring one run, and Lily Brennan singled, scoring two runs.
Reegan Mullen pitched four innings in relief for the Vikings. The pitcher surrendered four hits and three runs while, striking out two and walking three. Kaitlin Neumeister led things off in the circle for the Vikings. The hurler surrendered four hits and three runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out none and walking two.
The Vikings tallied 15 hits in the game. Graham, Brannigan, and Brennan each collected three hits for the Vikings. Montanez and Brianna Shutter each collected multiple hits for the Vikings. Izabelle Ratcliffe led the Vikings with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. The Vikings turned two double plays in the game.
The Vikings play Lackawanna again tomorrow with games at 12pm and 2pm.
