The Hudson Valley Community College softball team earned a trip to the NJCAA Region 3B Championship game for the third consecutive season after they defeated No. 6 Monroe Community College 4-0 and 6-1 during the sub-regional round on Saturday afternoon at HVCC.
GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 4, Monroe 0 (Final)
Moira Collins was dominant all day in the circle as she tallied a season-high 16 strikeouts in the Vikings 4-0 win over Monroe. Collins allowed four hits with zero for her 11th complete game of the season.
The Vikings jumped on the board in the third inning as a result of a skyrocketed two-run home run to deep center field by Abby Taylor. Taylor grabbed the first pitch she saw and drove the ball over the centerfield fence, just right of the scoreboard. Kayden Craft also scored on the home run after she reached base on a single to right field.
Craft and Anna Siter each collected two hits for the Vikings. Erin Madsen joined Taylor as the two Vikings to drive in two RBIs in the opening game.
GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 6, Monroe 1 (Final)
In the second game, the Vikings tallied three runs in the second and third innings to build a comfortable lead over the Tribunes. One of the Vikings big hits came from Reegan Mullen in the third inning. Following an RBI double by Anna Siter, Mullen stepped to the plate and crushed a two-run home run over the left field fence.
In the circle, Mullen earned the win after she pitched five complete innings and allowed no runs on two hits and tallied eight strikeouts. Anna Siter closed out the final two innings and allowed one run on one hit.
