Softball Sweeps Jefferson

The Hudson Valley Community College softball program went on the road and completed a series sweep against Jefferson in a crucial Region 3 match up to extend its win streak to five straight games.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 4, Jefferson 0 (Final)

Hudson Valley's starting pitcher, Moira Collins was dominant against a quality Jefferson program as she tossed a complete game shutout. Collins pitched seven innings and allowed just one hit with two walks and nine strikeouts.

The Vikings utilized a three-run top of the fourth inning rally to jump out on the Cannoneers, which proved to be enough with the way Collins was pitching, combined with zero errors committed by the defense.

As a team, the Vikings tallied four hits with Anna Siter recording the big hit, a two-run single in the fourth. Izabelle Ratcliffe, Angelise Montanez and Erin Madsen recorded the other hits for Hudson Valley.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 14, Jefferson 5 (Final – 5 innings)

In the second game of the day, Hudson Valley fell behind quickly in the first inning as Jefferson scored four runs in the top half at the start of the game. The Vikings responded, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and added five more runs in the bottom of the second inning to blow the game open, taking full control of the game and secured the series sweep.

In the seven-run first inning, the Vikings received its big hit from Abby Taylor. Following three straight walks to start the game, Taylor singled up the middle to score two runs and cut the deficit to 4-2. Grace Harris followed Taylor with an RBI groundout and Reegan Mullen cleared the bases with an RBI triple to right field and the Vikings were back on top, leading 5-4. The rally continued when Montanez singled up the middle to drive in two more runs, Madsen and Hotaling, to push the Vikings into a 7-4 lead.

In the second inning, Grace Harris drove in two runs with a single to center field, scoring Ratcliffe and Taylor. Another big hit came from Erin Madsen when she ripped a triple to right field to score two more runs to extend its lead 11-4. Hudson Valley produce a few more insurance runs to secure a run-ruled victory after the fifth inning.

Reegan Mullen and Anna Siter combined to pitch five innings and allowed five runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
