The Hudson Valley Community College softball team returned to action as they traveled to compete against the NJCAA division 2 program, Lackawanna, on Tuesday afternoon in Scranton, PA.

GAME ONE: Lackawanna 10, Hudson Valley 4 (Final)

The Vikings had one bad inning as they gave up five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after leading 4-3 early in the game over Lackawanna. The offense was able to get on base as they recorded 13 hits, but they couldn't find the big hit with runners in scoring position. As a team, the Vikings ended the day with 11 runners left on base.

Sophomore Erin Madsen led the way at the plate as she finished with three hits in four at-bats with one RBI. Kayden Kraft, Izabelle Ratcliffe and Anna Siter all finished with multi-hit games and combined to go 6-of-12 at the plate, scored three runs and drove in two RBIs.

Reegan Mullen recorded the loss, but she pitched well against a quality Lackawanna program. She tossed 4.1 innings and gave up 10 runs (5 earned) with six walks and six strikeouts. Anna Siter closed out the game in relief, pitching 1.2 innings and allowed just one hit with one walk and a pair of strikeouts.

GAME TWO: Lackawanna 2, Hudson Valley 0 (Final)

In the final game of the day, The Vikings held on to the very end but could not score any runs against the Lackawanna pitchers.

Hudson Valley's pitcher, Moira Collins, kept Lackawanna's offense in check for the majority of the game. She allowed just two runs on four hits and struck out 10 batters over seven innings pitched.

The Vikings hits came sparingly in the second game with four individuals connecting for base hits on the day. Grace Harris recorded the Vikings only extra-base hit, a double in the top of the sixth inning. Erin Madsen collected her fourth hit over the course of the games and Kayden Craft and Kaitlin Neumeister earned the other two hits for Hudson Valley.

ON DECK:

The Vikings home schedule is currently up in the air as Thursday's home games against Herkimer have been postponed and rescheduled to Tuesday, April 9th at HVCC. The next game is scheduled for Saturday, March 30th, a doubleheader against Niagara, depending on the amount of rain the field receives throughout the remainder of the week.
