The Hudson Valley Community College softball program won the series clinching game, a nail-biting 4-3 victory against Jefferson to advance to the NJCAA Region 3 Championship series at top-ranked Corning this Thursday, May 18 in Corning, NY.

Jody Rogers was the hero as she connected on a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to catapult the Vikings to a 4-3 lead with one inning remaining. Carly Gemmett and the Vikings defense in the seventh inning with Gemmett striking out the final two batters to secure the best-of-three series win over Jefferson.

Gemmett improves to 2-0 in the sub-regional series after she tossed her second consecutive complete game. In her seven innings pitched, Gemmett allowed three runs on three hits with five walks and 12 strikeouts.

Hudson Valley scored first in the second inning when Maryssa Sano scored on a wild pitch, but Jefferson would score three runs in the next two innings and held on to a 3-2 advantage to put the Vikings on the brink of elimination.

The sixth inning heroics keep the softball season alive as they will now travel to compete against top-ranked Corning in another best-of-three series for an opportunity to clinch a berth in the 2023 NJCAA Softball National Championship tournament in Syracuse, NY.
