The Hudson Valley Community College softball team completed the season series sweep over Mohawk Valley following their 11-2 home win on Tuesday afternoon at the Vikings Softball Field.
The Vikings and Hawks played one game as a continuance from the doubleheader from April 6 when the second game was called due to inclement weather, but did not reach the needed innings to make it an official game.
The Vikings power bats came to life this afternoon as they combined to hit four home runs, including a grand slam by Jody Rogers in the fifth inning. Abby Taylor crushed a three-run home run to center field in the third inning, which helped Hudson Valley break a 1-1 tie and pull away from the Hawks for good.
Carly Gemmett tossed a gem as she surrendered only two runs on five hits for the complete game. Gemmett also struck out 11 batters and walked one, while throwing 96 pitches.
As a team, the Vikings combined for nine hits with Katie Mannis, Kaylee LaForest and Abby Taylor recording two hits in the game. Taylor also finished with three RBIs and Rogers tallied a team-best four RBIs.
