The Hudson Valley Community College softball dropped a pair of road games at nationally-ranked Herkimer on Thursday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Herkimer 10, Hudson Valley 2 (5 innings)

Hudson Valley jumped out to quick 2-0 lead on the Generals but it quickly faded as the Generals put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning and eventually put the Vikings away with a four-run third inning and a three-run fifth inning to secure the eight-run victory.

Hudson Valley took advantage of two Herkimer errors to get on the board in the first inning. Erin Madsen got the ball rolling with as she reached on an error by the Generals short stop. Madsen later scored with Abby Campbell on an error on Maryssa Sano's ground ball to the pitcher.

Abby Taylor and Skyler Burns recorded the Vikings two hits as the team finished 2-for-17 at the plate with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Following back-to-back no-hitters, Carly Gemmett struggled against the Generals offense. She gave up seven runs on eight hits and struck out three batters. Katie Mannis entered the game in relief and allowed three runs on four hits over 1.2 innings.

GAME TWO: Herkimer 10, Hudson Valley 8 (7 innings)

The Vikings settled down in the second game but they still had to come back from an 8-1 deficit before they scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. A two-run seventh inning attack fell just short as the Vikings attempted to force extra innings to extend the game late.

In the five-run fourth inning, the innings was highlighted by a three-run home run by Jody Rogers as she connected on the first pitch she saw over the left field fence. Later in the inning, Campbell singled to center field, which allowed Nadia Hotaling and Erin Madsen to score. Hotaling walked and Madsen reached on an error to set up the two-run single by Campbell.

Campbell also homered as she led the seventh inning off with a solo home run over the center field fence. Campbell finished 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and three RBIs. Katie Mannis and Kaylee LaForest each collected three hits in the game. Mannis and LaForest also smacked two doubles a piece and combined to score three of the Vikings eight runs.
