Gemmett No-Hits Onondaga; Softball Splits Series

The Hudson Valley Community College softball program earned a series split at home with Onondaga with the Vikings taking the first game behind a no-hitter by Carly Gemmett.  

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 9, Onondaga 1 (6 innings)

The Vikings received a gem of a game from starting pitcher Carly Gemmett, who tossed a complete-game no-hitter as she went six innings and struck out eight batters.

The Vikings pulled away in the fourth inning as they scored four runs, which was highlighted by an RBI double by Abby Campbell. Campbell ended the game hitting 3-for-4 zat the plate with two RBIs. Katie Mannis immediately followed Campbell with an RBI single to centerfield to put Hudson Valley up 5-0 in the game. Maryssa Sano singled through the middle later in the inning, which allowed Abby Taylor to score and the Vikings jumped out to a 7-0 advantage. Mannis and Sano both accumulated two hits in the game.

Taylor also doubled in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Mannis and Bucciero to close out the game. Bucciero went yard in the third inning as she led the inning off with a deep fly over the left field fence.

GAME TWO: Onondaga 9, Hudson Valley 7

The Vikings got off to a rough start in the second game, as they struggled to find outs in Onondaga's half of the first inning. The Lazers scored seven runs and the Vikings were unable to complete the comeback effort.

The Vikings notched three runs in the in the third innings to cut down their early game deficit. In the third, Jody Rogers had a bases-clearing triple and Sano followed it up with an RBI single to score Rogers.

As a team, the Vikings tallied nine hits with Sano, Campbell and Kaylee LaForest recorded multiple hits in the game.

ON DECK:

The Vikings are back home on Tuesday, April 18 when they welcome SUNY Adirondack to the Vikings Softball Field on the campus of HVCC. The Region 3 doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
