Softball Falls at Home to DI Monroe College

The Hudson Valley Community College softball program dropped two hard-fought games against Monroe College, an NJCAA Division 1 program, on Thursday afternoon at the Vikings Softball Field on the campus of HVCC.

GAME ONE: Monroe College 12, Hudson Valley 4 (5 Innings)

The Vikings had a rough opening inning of the game as they gave up four runs in the top of the first inning to the Mustangs, but they fought back in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 4-4. The Vikings held tough with a quality program until the final two innings of the game when the Mustangs put up eight runs to close out the game in the fifth inning.

Leading the way for the Vikings offensively were Katie Mannis, Gia Bucciero and Angelina Pierro, who all collected hits in the game. Bucciero recorded a two-RBI single, which evened the score at four.

Mannis took the loss for the Vikings as she lasted 3.2 innings and allowed five hits and seven runs, while striking out two batters.

GAME TWO: Monroe College 13, Hudson Valley 5 (6 Innings)

The Vikings put five runs on the board in the top of the second inning to take a 5-1 lead before the Mustangs rallied back, scoring 12 unanswered runs to close out the game in the sixth inning.

In the second inning, the Vikings tallied five runs as Maryssa Sano, Alexis Baker, Nadia Hotaling and Abby Becker all recorded RBIs in the big inning. As a team, Hudson Valley collected seven hits with Hotaling and Baker finishing with a multiple-hit game.

The softball program returns home on Sunday, April 16 as they host Onondaga at the Vikings Softball Field for a Region 3 doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
