The Hudson Valley Community College softball program earned a critical over Mohawk Valley as they defeated the Hawks 4-3 in an epic 9-inning battle on Thursday afternoon at the Vikings Softball Field on the campus of HVCC.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 4, Mohawk Valley 3 (9-innings)

The first game of the afternoon was filled with emotion and excitement as the game went to 9-innings with the Vikings coming out on top in walk-off fashion. With the game tied at three, the Vikings Marissa Dodge singled on the first pitch of her at-bat to drive in the winning run, Abby Becker. Becker reached base with a single to left field, and nearly drove in the winning run, but the Hawks defense stood strong as they threw out Gianna Bucciero as she attempted to score from second base for the win. However, the next batter, Dodge came through in the clutch moment to give the Vikings a victory.

Katie Mannis led the Vikings at the plate as she finished the game hitting 2-for-3 at the plate. Carly Gemmett tossed another gem and earned the complete game win as she allowed two runs on six hits and struck out 13 batters.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley -, Mohawk Valley – ("No Game")

The second game of the series ended as a "No Game" as the umpires called the game due to weather/deteriorating field conditions. Hudson Valley was leading 10-0 and were at bat in the top of the fourth inning when the decision was made by the officials. The called game in the fourth meant the game did not reach the required five innings to be an official contest.
