The Hudson Valley Community College softball team faced two quality NJCAA programs today in Highland (Ill,) and Southeastern (IA) on day three of their spring trip at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC.

GAME ONE: Highland (Ill.) 12, Hudson Valley 3 (6-innings)
Following the team's first win of the season yesterday, where the Vikings did not commit one error, the softball team had a tough day all around, committing six errors and could not find the timely hitting needed to put more runs on the board against a quality NJCAA division 2 program, Highland.

Freshman Abby Taylor had a nice day at the plate as she launched her second home run on the season in the fifth inning. Taylor finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored.

GAME TWO: Southeastern (IA) 18, Hudson Valley 1 (5-innings)
The final game of the day came against the best team they will face all season, Southeastern, a division one NJCAA program from Iowa.

Southeastern improved to 11-2 on the year and won 10 straight as one of the nation's top softball programs at the division one level. It was difficult for the Vikings to contain the high-powered offense of Southeastern.

Hannah Taylor, Skylar Burns and Erin Madsen all collected one hit to lead the Vikings offense. Hudson Valley scored its lone run in the third inning following back-to-back singles by Burns and Taylor. Abby Becker walked to load the bases with no outs, which eventually led to a sacrifice fly by Gianna Bucciero to leftfield to score Burns.

ON DECK:
The softball team concludes their participation in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach tomorrow, Thursday, March 16 when they play two more games against Sussex at 11 a.m. and County College of Morris at 3 p.m.
