10 Straight! Softball Rolls Over Monroe in Sweep

The Hudson Valley Community College softball program has now won its last 10 games after sweeping Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY on Saturday afternoon as the Vikings kicked off its Western, NY road trip. 

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 11, Monroe 0  

The Vikings pitching has been electric as of late with veteran pitcher Shealynn Peckowitz leading the way in the circle in the opening game. Peckowitz allowed one hit, one walk and struck out 10 batters in six complete innings for her seventh win of the year. 

Leading the Vikings at the plate was Abigayle Campbell, who finished with a team-high three hits, going 3-for-5 (2 doubles) and drove in one run. Peckowitz also had a successful day at the plate as she connected for one triple, scored two runs and tallied a team-best four RBIs.  

In the seventh inning, Jody Rogers showed off her offensive power as she connected for a long ball, three-run home run to bring home Katie Mannis and Gabrielle Castiglione. 

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 11, Monroe 0 (5 innings)

The Vikings wasted no time to start the second game as they scored three runs in the first inning and followed it up with a big five run third inning to put the game out of reach of Monroe. 

Leading the Vikings at the plate was Hannah Taylor, Maryssa Sano and Alyssa Smith, who all finished the game with multiple hits. Taylor finished the game perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sano showed off her power in the first inning with a two-run home run over the left field wall. 

Smith collected two hits and tallied three RBIs, which included a two-RBI single to centerfield in the bottom of the third inning. 

Miranda Peck took the start in the circle for the Vikings and dominated from the start. Peck allowed one hit, struck out three in four complete innings to earn the win. Carly Gemmett entered in relief for the final inning, allowing a hit and struck out one batter. 

UP NEXT

Hudson Valley returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, May 1 as they complete the Western New York road trip with a doubleheader against Genesee in Batavia, NY. Game one is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
