Softball Sweeps Adirondack; Win Streak Hits Four!

The Hudson Valley Community College softball program earned two wins, despite a 17-day hiatus due to poor weather, for the series sweep of SUNY Adirondack on Friday afternoon in Queensbury, NY. The softball team has now won four straight games as they head into the final stretch of the regular season with eyes on the program's first postseason berth since 2016. 

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 16, Adirondack 0 (5 Innings)

Hudson Valley's Shealynn Peckowitz pitched a gem of a game as she tossed a complete game, shutout in the Vikings blow out win in game one of the doubleheader against the Timberwolves. 

Abigayle Campbell led the Vikings to the easy win by driving in five runs and finished the game with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. She drove in runs on a single in the second inning, another single in the third inning and capped off her great game one performance with a home run in the fifth inning. 

In the opening inning, the Vikings didn't waste any time to get on the board. Gianna Bucciero drove in the first two runs of the game when she connected for a home run over the centerfield wall. 

Hudson Valley notched five runs in both the second and the fifth inning to put the game away for good. In the fifth inning, Hannah Taylor, Campbell, Maryssa Sano and Jody Rogers each had RBIs in the big inning. Taylor, Campbell and Sano all hit home runs in the Vikings five-run fifth inning. 

As a team, Hudson Valley tallied 18 total hits in the game with Campbell, Taylor, Bucciero, Rogers and Alyssa Smith all recording multi-hit games. 

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 16, Adirondack 5 (5 innings)

The Vikings offensive encore continued in game two of the road series as they Vikings combined for 16 runs on 19 hits, including a massive 10-run inning in the second. 

In the big second inning, the Vikings were led offensively by Katie Mannis, Alyssa Smith, Shealynn Peckowitz, Abigayle Campbell, Gianna Bucciero and Maryssa Sano, who all recorded RBis in the inning. 

Mannis got the ball rolling first as she connected for a two-run home run over the centerfield wall to tie the game up at 2-2. Smith followed that up with an RBI double, scoring Jody Rogers and Peckowitz later connected for an RBI single to score Smith. The Vikings then connected for seven straight hits and pushed their lead to 10-2 at the end of the inning. Maryssa Sano and Gabriella Castiglione hit back-to-back home runs to highlight the big inning. 

Miranda Peck pitched the Vikings to victory as she allowed five hits and allowed four runs over four innings. She struck out five and only walked one batter. Carly Gemmett entered the game in relief and pitched the final inning to close out the game.

Hudson Valley is scheduled to be back in action on Sunday, as they travel west to take on Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY. The first pitch is set for a 1 p.m. start.
