The Hudson Valley Community College softball program earned two wins for the series sweep of SUNY Broome Tuesday afternoon in Binghamton, NY. The series was an offensive slugfest by the Vikings and was highlighted by a game one no-hitter by Shealynn Peckowitz.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 9, Broome 0 (6 Innings)

Hudson Valley's Shealynn Peckowitz pitched a gem of a game as she tossed a complete game no-hitter against the Broome Hornets to start the series off on a great note. Peckowitz finished the game with three walks and 10 strikeouts. She has now struck out 10 or more batters in her last three starts.

The Vikings big inning came in the fourth when they notched four runs as Katie Mannis and Hannah Taylor both connected for 2 RBI doubles in the inning. Gianna Bucciero and Maryssa Sano started the rally off with a single to shortstop and a double to centerfield, respectively. Mannis then lined a double to leftfield, scoring Bucciero and Sano to put the Vikings up 3-0 on the Hornets. Bucciero also connected for a solo home run later in the fifth inning to help put the game out of reach of SUNY Broome.

Jody Rogers continued the fourth inning rally with a single to shortstop, advancing Mannis to third base and set up Hannah Taylor for her 2 RBI double to right field and the Vikings extended its lead to 5-0. Taylor finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBIs.

As a team, the Vikings combined for 13 hits with Bucciero, Rogers, Mannis, Taylor and Sano all finishing with a multi-hit day. Bucciero led all hitters with three hits in four at-bats.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 16, Broome 0 (5 innings)

The Vikings offensive encore in game two was a season-high 16 runs on 14 hits as they defeated Broome 16-0 in five innings. The pitching duo of Carly Gemmett and Miranda Peck combined to throw a shutout and allowed only one hit to complete the sweep.

Hudson Valley didn't waste any time as they jumped out to an early first inning lead when Abigayle Campbell's sac fly scored Hannah Taylor for the quick 1-0 advantage. Two batters later, Maryssa Sano connected for her second home run of the season, scoring Bucciero and Peckowitz.

The Vikings offense put up five more runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth to push the Vikings lead up to 16-0. In the third inning, back-to-back walks set up a 2 RBI double by Taylor, scoring Rogers and Alyssa Smith. Peckowitz singled in the next at-bat, which allowed Taylor to score. The very next batter was Campbell, who connected for her third home run of the season and pushed Hudson Valley lead to a convincing 10 runs.
