The Hudson Valley Community College softball program dropped both games to nationally-ranked Corning during a rainy Sunday afternoon at the Vikings Softball Field on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

GAME ONE: Corning 11, Hudson Valley 4

Hudson Valley had a tough time closing out the No. 2 ranked Corning Red Barons in the opening game of the scheduled doubleheader as Hudson Valley held on to a narrow 2-0 lead as the game entered the fifth inning.

In the fourth inning, the Vikings showed off their power as Maryssa Sano and Abigayle both connected for big flys over the left center field wall, giving the Vikings the early advantage on Corning.

In the fifth, the Red Barons responded and posted six runs, highlighted by two home runs of their own and took a 6-2 lead as the game advanced into the late innings. Corning would score five more runs in the sixth and seventh inning combined to secure the win.

Hudson Valley pushed two more runs across the plate in the sixth inning when Campbell hit her second home run of the game, a two-run homer over the center field fence, scoring Shealynn Peckowitz

Peckowitz took the loss on the mound following a strong performance where she struck out 10 batters in 4.1 innings pitched.

GAME TWO: Corning 10, Hudson Valley 5

Once again, the Vikings worked their way to an early lead on the national power when they rallied to score three runs in the top of the second inning. Jody Rogers put the Vikings on the board when she connected on a hit to leftfield for a two-RBI double, scoring Sano and Katie Mannis. Sano doubled to lead off the inning and Mannis reached on a hit-by-pitch. Later in the inning, Rogers scored from third base on a Corning wild pitch to the backstop.

As a team, the Vikings tallied seven hits with Sano and Hannah Taylor each recording multiple hits in the game. Taylor and Sano connected for two hits each.
