Peckowitz Strikes Out 15 as Vikings Split in Final Myrtle Beach Day

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team split their two games on their final day of the 2022 Myrtle Beach Spring Softball Tournament.   

Game 1
Hudson Valley 8, Sussex 3

The Vikings earned its second win of the season after defeating Sussex 8-3 behind the spectacular pitching by Shealynn Peckowitz, who struck out 15 batters and tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on two hits. 

The Vikings scored three runs in the fourth inning to pull away from Sussex for good, extending their lead to 6-1. Abigayle Campbell, Gianna Bucciero and Maryssa Sano powered the big inning with each recording one RBI in the inning. 

As a team, the Vikings collected 11 hits in the game. Bucciero, Alexis Baker and Hannah Taylor all managed multiple hits in the win. Bucciero went 3-for-4 at the play to lead Hudson Valley in hits. 

Game 2
Herkimer 9, Hudson Valley 1 (5-innings)

The Vikings closed out a successful spring trip with another game against nationally ranked Herkimer. The Generals defeated the Vikings 9-1 in five innings as the Vikings had a tough time generating runs. 

Herkimer had two big innings where they scored three runs in the second and four runs in the fourth to keep the Vikings at bay. Miranda Peck was in the circle for Hudson Valley and tossed 3.0 innings and allowed seven runs on three hits and struck out three. 

Individually, Katie Mannis led the Vikings with two hits in her three at-bats.  

On Deck for Softball:
Up next for the Vikings is the start of the Region 3 schedule when they welcome Erie to Hudson Valley for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 27 with games scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
