Softball's Offense Explodes for Two Wins

Hudson Valley Community College softball team (4-12) earned the series sweep on Wednesday afternoon against Tompkins-Cortland as the Vikings offense combined to score 39 runs in both games today.

Game One: Hudson Valley 14, Tompkins-Cortland 2 (5 Innings)

The Vikings offense woke up in game one as they scored six runs in the first inning and added seven more runs in the third inning to win their first home game of the season. Elizabeth Brooking (Rensselaer/Rensselaer) tossed a complete game with five hits, two runs, five walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

Paige Roberts (Cobleskill/Cobleskill) continued to hit the ball for the Vikings as she added two more hits, including a double and drove in two RBIs and scored two runs. Madison Herrington (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) poked two singles for three RBIs and one run scored.

Gina Patricelli (Troy/Lansingburgh) and Sierra Putnam (Nassau/New Lebanon) each had a double today and combined to score four runs and three RBIs.

Game Two: Hudson Valley 25, Tompkins-Cortland (5 Innings)

The Vikings put up 11 runs in the fourth inning to pull safely away from the Panthers in game two for the series sweep. Matti Hayes (Castleton/Columbia) tossed a complete game with three hits, three runs (1 ER) and five walks to earn her first collegiate win. Hayes also produced at the plate, collecting three hits and scored one run with one RBI.

Putnam blew open the game in the fourth inning when she connected on an inside pitch and drove it down the left field line for a grand slam and her second home run of the season. Putnam finished with three hits, five RBIs and five runs scored.

Ashley Pulcher (Stuyvesant/Ichabod Crane) finished with four RBIs on two singles and scored three runs. Roberts finished the game 3-for-4 and scored four runs and added two RBI. Brooking also scored four runs in the Vikings game two win.

On-Deck:

The Vikings are scheduled to be home again this Friday, May 4 as they welcome Fulton-Montgomery to Troy, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Vikings Softball Field.
