Hudson Valley Community College softball team (0-8) were defeated in both games on Sunday afternoon as the Vikings welcomed Monroe Community College to Troy, N.Y.

Game One: Hudson Valley 0, Monroe 15 (5 Innings)

The Vikings got off to a slow start in the opening game as they collected one hit and struck out six times. Matti Hayes (Castleton/Columbia) started in the circle and hit leadoff for the Vikings, recording a base hit into left field in the first inning. Hayes has been hitting lights out for the Vikings this season as she is currently batting .364 with three runs scored in eight games.

The Monroe lineup has played in 16 games in the 2018 season and they hit the ball in parts of the field where it was nearly impossible to make any plays on the ball. Monroe collected 18 hits with 11 RBIs.

Game Two: Hudson Valley 4, Monroe 15 (5 Innings)

The Vikings fell behind early again to Monroe in game two as the Tribunes put up 10 runs in the first two innings. Hudson Valley fought back with a big inning in the third, but were unable to maintain the momentum in the final two innings.

The third inning was highlighted by a two run home run by Sierra Putnam (Nassau/New Lebanon). Putnam earned her first career collegiate home run as she sent Monroe's pitch deep over the right center wall.

Hayes and Paige Roberts (Cobleskill/Cobleskill) each collected a pair of hits which included an RBI double by Roberts in the third inning.
