The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (10-9) lost to No. 2 Herkimer College (34-5) 8-3 and 6-4 on Friday afternoon.
Brittany Ubrich (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) hit a 2-run homerun in the second to tie the game at two, but Herkimer eventually pulled away after a big inning. Ubrich finished the game with two hits, and Shelby Fenton (Catholic Central/Troy) went a perfect 4-4 in the loss.
The Vikings fell behind early and couldn't make up the ground in time before the rain hit in game two. Shannon Johnson (Averill Park/Wynantskill) led the team with two hits, and Fenton and Mercedes Martell (Coxsackie-Athens/Earlton) each added a hit in the loss.
The softball team waits to see who and where they will play in the opening round of Regionals on Tuesday.
