The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (4-4) split with Mohawk Valley Community College (5-11) on Thursday afternoon. The Vikings won game one 6-3 in eight innings, but then dropped game two 8-5.
In the first game, Jayda Bryant-Bonarrigo (Albany/Albany) went 2-3 at the plate with a homerun, and Shelby Fenton (Catholic Central/Troy) added three hits to lead the Vikings. Courtney McDonnell (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) and Mercedes Martell (Coxsackie-Athens/Earlton) each added two hits in the win, and Dana Julian (Waterford-Halfmoon/Waterford) came in to pitch in the seventh and eighth inning to earn the win on the mound.
Brittany Ubrich (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) led the Vikings in game two, going 4-4 with a double and two RBIs. Fenton recorded another three hits, and McDonnell and Jessica James (Greenwich/Greenwich) each tallied two hits in the loss.
The softball team travels to Broome on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
