The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (2-2) lost to Onondaga Community College (7-11) 9-8 and 11-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings fell behind in game one and a late rally fell just short. Shelby Fenton (Catholic Central/Troy) led the team with a homerun, and Shannon Johnson (Averill Park/Wynantskill), Hannah Hoffman (Averill Park/Wynantskill), and Courtney McDonnell (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) each recorded two hits and a double in the loss.
The ladies held a 4-run lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, but the Lazers were able to score eight runs en route to the win. Mercedes Martell (Coxsackie-Athens/Earlton) led the team going 4-4 at the plate, and Fenton added three hits in the loss.
The softball team looks to bounce back tomorrow when they host Monroe for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
