Cross Country Programs Sweep Mountain Valley Championships

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross country programs secured back-to-back conference championships after they both won the 2022 Mountain Valley Conference Championships on Saturday at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY. 

The women's team had all five runners place inside the top-10 and were led by sophomore Olivia Skylstad, who won the race and recorded an official time of 21:36. Eva Sgambettera placed third with a time of 23:33. Jessica Wank and Rebecca Seiter crossed the line next in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Wank posted a time of 26:39 and Seiter finished with a time of 26:45. Ellicia Swedish rounds out the Vikings scoring with a sixth-place finish and a time of 28:56. 

The men's program concluded the event, winning the 8K championship course with Hudson Valley's top runner, Eric Zumpeplacing second with a time of 28:59. The men's team had five individuals finish inside the top-10. Jake Kinnicutt earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 30:21, while Adam Blough and Justin Layer finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place. Blough finished seventh with a time of 30:29 and Layer placed eighth with a time of 31:44. William Petramale rounds out the Vikings top-5 scorers as he crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 32:40.

Rounding out the remaining men's runners are Ian Shaw (14th  – 34:30), Caden Jarvis (19th  – 36:34), Cody Tyler (20th  – 36:34) and Aidan Alaxanian (30th  – 44:12).

Up next for the cross country programs is the 2022 NJCAA Region 3 Championships on Saturday, October 22. The Region 3 Championships will be hosted by Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, NY.
