Women's Cross Country Wins Conference Championship; Men Placed Second

Cross Country Competes at Mountain Valley Championships

The Hudson Valley men's and women's cross country programs competed in the Mountain Valley Conference Championship meet on Saturday morning in Herkimer, NY. The women's program claimed the conference championship for the second consecutive year. 

The women's team was led by the Mountain Valley Conference individual champion, McKenzie Ryan. Ryan won the 5K race and posted a final time of 21:09. All six of the Vikings runners placed inside the top-15. 

Anna Clarke placed fourth and posted a time of 23:27. Clarke was followed closely by Ashley Martinez and Michaela Troy. Martinez finished fifth with a time of 25:12 and Troy crossed the line in sixth place with a time of 25:33. 

Rachel Dempsey and Emily Maynard rounds out the Vikings results with Dempsey placing 14th with a time of 30:02 and Maynard finished 15th with a time of 36:23. 

The men's cross country team just missed winning back-to-back conference championships by one point. The men's program placed second in the overall standings and were led by Joseph Degiorgio, who finished the four-mile race in second place with a time of 23:27. 

Evan Rogotzke and Ryan Bruce posted top-10 finishes with Rogotzke earning a sixth-place finish with a time of 24:11 and Bruce crossed the line in eigthth place with a time of 24:49. 

Rounding out the Vikings scoring were Jacob Wilson and Edgar Alamo-Benitez. Wilson finished 12th with a time of 26:04 and Alamo-Benitez crossed the line in 20th place and posted a time of 31:19. 

Ethan Welkley (28:57), Dermot O'Connor (25:32), Justin Caron (29:49) and Francis Magai (27:40) also competed for the men's program. 

The cross county programs will compete in the NJCAA Region 3 Championships on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Finger Lakes Community College.
