Cross Country Wins Mountain Valley Championships

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross-country teams dominated the field at the Mountain Valley Conference Championships on Saturday morning as both teams claimed the Conference Championships in their respective division. 

The women's team had all six runners cross the finish line inside the top-8 positions as they claimed the Mountain Valley Championship. Mercedes Planavsky (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), led the way for the Vikings as she won the meet with a final time of 21:02.6. Sarah Rosenberger (Home School/Saratoga Springs) crossed the line in third place with a time of 22:15.1 and Leigha Gaschel (Cairo/Cairo-Durham) finished fourth overall with a final time of 23:41.1.

Anna Clarke (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) and Ashley Martinez (Red Hook/Red Hook) rounds out the final scoring for the women's team. Clarke placed fifth overall with a time of 24:27.9 and Martinez finished sixth with a time of 25:18.8. Hanna White finished eighth overall with a final time of 25: 57.3.

The men's team placed first overall and claimed the Mountain Valley Championship as they had all five scoring members finish in the top-10 with Jared Craw (Colonie/Colonie) leading the way. Craw won the race as he crossed the finish line with an official time of 22:44.2. Holden Maynard (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) placed third with a time of 23:36.7. 

James Blaauboer (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) crossed the line next in fifth place and recorded a final time of 24:02.2. Steven Lindsay(Rotterdam/Clayton A. Bouton) finished eighth and had a time of 24:32.7 and Miles James (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) closed out the Vikings scoring with an 11thplace finish with a time of 25:27.2. 

The cross-country program is back in action on Saturday, October 27 for the NJCAA Region 3 Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley at 11 a.m.
