Cross Country Teams Place in Top-3 at Cobleskill

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross-country teams had a great showing at the SUNY Cobleskill Invitation on Saturday morning as the women placed second overall and the men placed third. 

The women's team had four of their five runners earn All-Meet medals for finishing inside the top-15 overall. The Vikings were led by Mercedes Planavsky (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), who finished second overall with a final time of 20:37. Sarah Rosenberger (Home School/Saratoga Springs) and Leigha Gaschel (Cairo/Cairo-Durham) also medaled for the Vikings by finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Rosenberger finished with a time of 21:54 and Gaschel crossed the line at 22:03. 

Anna Clarke (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) earned her medal with a 13thoverall finish as she recorded a time of 22:59. Ashley Martinez (Red Hook/Red Hook) rounds out the Vikings scoring with a 33rdplace finish and a time of 26:45.  

The Vikings men's cross-country team placed third overall with a final combined time of 2:30:47.04 in the 8K race, just over four minutes off the lead pace. Out of 62 total runners, the Vikings placed seven runners inside the top-25. Jared Craw (Colonie/Colonie) set the pace for the men's team as he finished third overall with a time of 28:37.28. 

Holden Maynard (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) and James Blaauboer (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) followed Craw through the finish line in seventh and 14th place, respectively. Maynard finished the race with a final time of 29:29 and Blaauboer crossed the line at 30:58. Steven Lindsay (Rotterdam/Clayton A. Bouton) and Shaun Buerker (Guilderland/Guilderland) rounds out the Vikings scoring with an 18th and 20th place finish, respectively. Lindsay finished with a time of 30:58 and Buerker had a final time of 31:10.

Craw, Maynard and Blaauboer all earned All-Meet honors for finishing in the top-15 overall.  

The cross-country program is back in action on Saturday, September 22 when they travel to participate in the Fred Pavlich Invitational at Bard College at 11 a.m.
