Men's Cross Country Wins Herkimer Invitational

Hudson Valley Community College men's cross country team won the Herkimer Invitational Saturday morning. Holden Maynard (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) finished second overall with an official time of 23:27.
The men's team had its top-5 scorers finish inside the top-15 to claim its first team win of the 2017 season. Subri Ismail (Albany/Albany) finished fourth, crossing the finish line in 23:36, Ryan Moon (Colonie/Colonie) finished fifth with a time of 24:00 and Anton Conto (Glenville/Niskayuna) finished in sixth place with a time of 24:25. Parker Swierzewski (Valatie/LaSalle) crossed the finish line 13th with a time of 26:46 as the Vikings final scorer.
Nathanael Savasta (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) crossed the finish line in 18th place with final time of 32:59.
The women's cross country team placed three runners inside the top-10 at the Herkimer Invitational. Sarah Rosenberger (Saratoga Springs/Home School) placed second overall with a time of 23:08. Mercedes Planavsky (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) followed Rosenberger, placing third with a time of 27:19 and Hayley Smith (East Greenbush/Bethlehem) was the Vikings final runner, crossing the line in seventh place with a time of 26:26.
The cross country program has one more meet before the conference meet as they travel to Westfield State University on Oct. 7 for the James Earley Invitational. The conference meet will be held at Herkimer College on Oct. 14.
