In the most recent NJCAA Top 10 National Polls, the Hudson Valley Community College women's cross country team is ranked fifth and the men eighth.
Eric Young (Shaker/Latham) finished second and the third in both races this year for the men, while Hilary Crannage (Polytech/Alleghany) finished in the top spot for the women. Young was last year's team MVP, running in all eight meets and finishing in the top spot for the Vikings in each. His best individual performances came at the SUNY IT Invitational where he placed first to win his first collegiate race and at the NJCAA National meet where he placed ninth. Young is coming off a year where he was named NJCAA All-American and was selected as a member of the All-Region III Team. Crannage is the women's top incoming freshman and is off to a great start this season, finishing 15th and 25th in both meets thus far.
Head coach Chuck Terry is excited about his teams and the season, saying, "Both the men's and women's teams have been encouraging each other through workouts and races, and their combined team chemistry has led for both groups to each achieve high rankings and early season success. If we can minimize injuries and properly prioritize our time, our runners will continue making huge strides throughout late October during championship season."
Both Cross Country teams travel to Bard College on Saturday, Sept. 17 beginning at noon.
